Complete dentures, also known as “false teeth”, are a type of removable dental prosthesis/ apparatus/ tool used to replace a full arch of missing teeth. On average, complete dentures can last anywhere from 5 to 8 years before needing to be replaced. However, this can vary greatly depending on the individual, how well the dentures are taken care of, and the type of material used to make them.
It typically takes three appointments to make complete dentures. The first two appointments are to take impressions and measurements. Thirdly we need to perform a “try-in,” while the second is to fit and adjust the dentures.
Avoid eating hard and sticky foods for the first 24 hours. Avoid sticky foods for at least a week. Wear your dentures for about four hours the first day, increasing the time each day. Rinse your mouth after eating to help remove food particles. Gently brush your dentures daily with a soft-bristled brush and a mild soap or denture cleaner. After each use, soak your dentures in a denture cleanser solution or in warm water. speak with your oral health coach regularly for any adjustments (if needed).
